DI§OBEDIENCE
A documentary film by David Sieveking
SYNOPSIS:
The personally narrated cinema documentary DI§OBEDIENT revolves around a group of activists who engage in civil disobedience by nonviolently breaking the law in order to fight for justice.
Who are these people who accept legal consequences and great personal risks for their political commitment, while the effectiveness of their efforts is highly questionable? Even if the state and the majority respond to civil disobedience with rejection and criminalization, illegal protest can still be legitimate and even necessary in order to bring about important social change. The film places contemporary protests, ranging from climate and environmental protection to anti-fascism, in the context of the history of nonviolent civil disobedience, which shows that many achievements in democracy and human rights can be traced back to courageous pressure from the streets. As Martin Luther King noted: Privileged groups seldom give up their privileges voluntarily.
In several storylines, DI§OBEDIENT tells astonishing David-versus-Goliath stories whose protagonists are fighting for a more just future.
